The review looks at how our District will evolve over the decades ahead, how it will look and feel, how to house a growing population, how we protect our indigenous biodiversity and historic heritage, and how we manage natural hazards and sea level rise as well as a range of other matters.
The District Plan is a large and technical document. To help in understanding the different topics, what issues are of concern, and some of the preliminary thinking to address these concerns, we created 14 Discussion Documents. These provide a high-level explanation of each topic and some suggestions about what might need to be changed in the new District Plan.
These Discussion Documents formed the basis for our first round of community engagement, during August and September 2021. This information is now being used to inform the next step, which is to develop a draft District Plan, currently scheduled for consultation in June 2022. Each Discussion Document has a summary overview, as well as a longer version that provides more details.
While the feedback period has now finished, the Discussion Documents are still a useful tool to understand the various elements of the District Plan and what our initial analysis told us about what might need to change or be addressed in the process. A summary of the feedback we have received on each Discussion Document is also provided at the bottom of this page.
We received feedback from 38 individuals or organisations across the Discussion Document topics.
