Have your say on proposed speed changes for Pouto Peninsula and West Coast roads
Consultation is now open on a proposal for new speed limits in Kaipara’s Poutō Peninsula and West Coast catchment areas. You now have until Monday 5 December to give your feedback.
A statement of proposal outlines the proposed speed limit changes, and a detailed report is available which includes technical information about the proposed changes.
The Poutō Peninsula and West Coast catchment areas cover the southern point of the Poutō Peninsula to the northern end of the Kaipara District, along its west coast and includes the settlements of Aranga, Aratapu, Baylys Beach, Glinks Gully, Kai Iwi Lakes, Kelly’s Bay, Omamari, and Te Kopuru.
Three public drop-in sessions will be held during the consultation period; in Te Kōpuru, Baylys Beach and Kaihu. These sessions are an opportunity for you to discuss the proposed changes and ask questions.
The proposed speed changes are part of Kaipara District Council and Northland Transportation Alliance’s (NTA) speed review, triggered by the Government’s Road to Zero National Strategy.
We are doing this in a staged process, focusing on areas where the evidence indicates that changing the speed limit will have the greatest impact on reducing fatal and serious harm crashes and improving overall road safety.
Public drop-in sessions
- Te Kopuru: Thursday 10 November, 5-7pm, Southern Rugby Club
- Baylys Beach: Tuesday 22 November, 5-7pm, Baylys Beach Community Centre
- Kaihu: Thursday 24 November, 5-7pm, Kaihu Rugby Club
Submissions must be received by 5pm Friday 5 December 2022.
See the proposed speed changes in the Statement of Proposal document, read the detailed Technical Report and give your feedback under ‘Have your say’ at kaipara.govt.nz
